LUAU! …with the Dillos and Rebels Saturday, June 8
The partying pineapples are back! They’re having FUN at a Luau – which is exactly what you’ll be doing when you join us June 8 for fun and games, laughter, sunshine, camaraderie, prizes and FOOD! Diving you ask? Of course you can dive, but it’s not required. This annual funfest – a combo Scubadillo and Diving Rebels event – is a day to get out of the house, enjoy some games in the water and on land, eat, party and hang with your favorite fun divers. You don’t want to miss it! It’s also our annual fundraiser. Members and non-members will need a ticket.

Diving The lake has a dive platform, a sunken bus and helicopter, and lots of fish! Might be chilly; 5 mil suit recommended. Be sure to arrive early (approx 11 a.m.) if you intend to dive. Expect low 70s on the surface at this time of year and colder past the various thermoclines as the lake can get past 60 feet for true deep dives. Bring proper hoods, gloves and lights if you go this deep as it is a night dive at this depth – but the water gets clearer! Diving begins in the morning or when you arrive. Raffle Bring plenty of cash for the raffle to win great prizes.Silent auction Get some dive gear at a super great price! Buy a gift basket full of fun items. Spend some money to help support the club. Chow down! The Luau Feast begins at 1 p.m.-ish. We’ll have pulled pork. Bring a side dish to share. To avoid eight tubs of potato salad, please let us know what you’re bringing. Sign up here. This also helps us know how many folks are coming so we can have enough meat.Visible alcoholic beverages are not allowed at the park (like most park rules), so remember to bring appropriate beverage containers for your favorite drink. Let the games begin! It’s a Luau. Feel free to dress up in your favorite tropical attire! Getting there Glen Rose is about 77 miles from DFW Airport, off Hwy 67 south of the Fort Worth area and slightly southwest of Waxahachie. You could do an easy day trip from Dallas. If you make a weekend of it, you could visit the nearby Dinosaur Valley State Park or explore the 1,700-acre Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. From the Dallas area, take I-35 past the Dallas Zoo and take the right-hand split on Hwy. 67 to Duncanville, Cedar Hill, Midlothian, Alvarado and Cleburne. In Glen Rose, take Bo Gibbs Blvd. (CR 301) near the Expo Center/La Quinta intersection and go a half-mile west to see the park entrance where you will veer left at the “Y” intersection onto CR 326. Look for the Scubadillo signs and banners at the pavilion. |
