Local Dive @ The Scuba Ranch

August 22 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Get ready to blow some bubbles, Dillos! We’re heading to Terrell for a fantastic day of local diving at The Scuba Ranch. This 22-acre spring-fed lake is one of the premier freshwater dive sites in Texas, offering an excellent setup for divers of all experience levels.

Whether you’re looking to dial in a new gear configuration, knock out some specialty skills, or just enjoy a leisurely fun dive with the club, the lake has plenty of unique underwater topography to keep things interesting.

Quick Details

  • When: 10:00 AM
  • Where: The Scuba Ranch (131 County Road 346, Terrell, TX)
  • Meeting Point: OCD Divers’ pavillion

Underwater Attractions

  • Sisco the Shark: You can’t visit without getting a photo op with the park’s famous sunken fiberglass shark in the shallows.
  • Sunken Fleet: Navigate around several submerged boats and the central Cessna airplane resting at about 30 feet.
  • The Underwater Forest: A unique area of submerged trees that provides great buoyancy practice and shelter for local bass, perch, and freshwater turtles.
  • Training Platforms: Suspended PVC platforms are available at various depths for anyone wanting to practice skills away from the silt.

Schedule & Logistics

  • 10:00 AM: Meet up at our TBD dock/pavilion for a quick site briefing, buddy pairing, and gear assembly.
  • Surface Intervals: We’ll hang out at our designated pavilion between dives. Be sure to bring your favorite snacks, plenty of hydration, and a camp chair.
  • Post-Dive Lunch: After we pack up our gear and rinse off, we’ll head out to grab a bite together. We’ll pick a local spot for a group lunch to swap dive stories and refuel.

What to Bring

  • C-Card & Logbook: Don’t forget your certification card.
  • Dive Kit: Full scuba setup (BCD, regulator, mask, fins, weights, etc.). While the surface water is usually warm, thermoclines at depth can drop the temperature significantly. Bring exposure protection appropriate for your planned depth.
  • Park Admission: You will need to pay the daily diver entry fee at the gate.
  • Pro-Tip: To save time checking in at the gate, make sure to sign the liability waiver ahead of time here: https://www.thescubaranch.com/waivers.

Keep an eye on this event page for the final dock assignment as the date approaches. See you in the water!
