Please join us Thursday, Sept 5, for our general monthly meeting at On The Border, 4855 Belt Line Rd. in Addison. Social hour starts 6-ish. The official meeting starts at 7:15 with news and information about our dive events and social calendar, followed by our monthly presentation.
Presentation title: Revenge of the Oceans: aka Project Komodo.
Dr. Larry McKenna, founder of Save Our Leatherbacks Operation, S.O.L.O., and directors Dr. Mike Miller and Pam Miller will share their story and successes. They’ll also discuss movement of flowing water into trash piles in the ocean and introduce the new Project Komodo, which focuses on cleaning up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Turtle Pendant / Raffle
Dr. McKenna has graciously donated this stunning sapphire and ruby turtle pendant with chain, appraised at nearly $1,000! This limited, numbered pendant is made using a hand-carved mold in Bombay, India.
We’ll have our regular end-of-meeting raffle for misc. dive accessories. IN ADDITION, we’ll have a second separate raffle for this treasured pendant: $10 per ticket. NOTE: The Diving Rebels are also being treated to this same presentation and raffle opportunity at their meeting the night before our meeting. There’s only ONE pendant. Members from Dillos and Rebels will be vying for it.
The winning ticket will be drawn at our meeting, but tickets from BOTH clubs will be in the drawing. This is a fundraiser, folks, and proceeds will be evenly split between to the two “sister” clubs.
We can’t thank Dr. McKenna enough for his generous donation. Not only is he helping us raise funds for our collective environmental efforts, he’ll also make one member VERY happy! 🙂
See you September 5.
