The Scubadillo Dive Club will host their annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest and Octoberfest Feast at Tyler State Park (about 90 miles east of Dallas on I-20) on the weekend of October 14 at the Lakeview Campground area. We have several campground sites reserved and one extra for anyone wanting to enjoy the nice Fall weather at a beautiful park (let us know if you want it - first come, first served so let David Prichard know).

We will begin the festivities around Noon that Saturday (many of us will be there camping Friday and Saturday nights) and we will begin hallowing out our pumpkins at the campground (look for the Scubadillo signs and banners). We will then take our prepared pumpkins to the beach area around 2 PM and have a shotgun-start for an hour of underwater pumpkin carving. Rules this year are NO pre-marking or stenciling your pumpkin. Any attachments to your pumpkin need to be made underwater so that when you surface after an hour you have a finished jack-o-lantern for judging later that night. The judging theme this year is the "funniest-looking pumpkin." Divers need to bring a mesh bag per buddy team to collect any large chunks of pumpkin cut out underwater.

We will then go back to "Scubadillo Central" at the Lakeview Campground to socialize and get ready for our Octoberfest Feast with German-style courses that the club will provide, but we ask attendees to bring a pot-luck side dish or desert to share. And, of course, BYOB if you want more than bottled water. When it gets dark enough we will light the carved jack-o-lanterns up for judging with great prizes awarded afterward. Depending upon drought restrictions, we generally have a bonfire to gather around for great socializing. This can be a day-trip from Dallas, or you can camp at the park or stay at a nearby hotel in Tyler Saturday night.

We hope to see you there for another great Scubadillo dive event!
